Overview
The purpose of these policies is to help you understand how Therapy By You operates. Please read them
carefully and ask questions about anything that is unclear. By scheduling or attending a session you are acknowledging that you understand and agree to these policies.
Session Types & Fees
You have several rights regarding your mental‑health record. To exercise any of these rights, please contact the Privacy Officer listed above.
- Consultation (20 minutes): Free. This short appointment allows us to meet, answer your questions and decide whether our services are a good fit.
- Individual Therapy – Intake Session (60 minutes): $120.
- Individual Therapy – Ongoing Sessions (50 minutes): $90 per session.
- Couples Therapy – Intake Session (75 minutes): $150.
- Couples Therapy – Ongoing Sessions (60 minutes): $120 per session.
- Commitment Package: Prepay for five sessions and receive a 10 % discount off the total.
Fees may change with reasonable notice. We do not accept insurance, currently, and we do not submit
claims to insurance carriers. Payment is due at the time of service. We accept cash, check, credit or debit
card. Your card information is stored securely through our payment processor and may be used for session
fees and late‑cancellation charges.
Cancellation & No‑Show Policy
We value your time and reserve your appointment exclusively for you. Please let us know as soon as
possible if you need to cancel or reschedule. We prefer 48 hours’ notice and require at least 24 hours’
notice to avoid being billed. If you cancel with less than 24 hours’ notice or do not show for your
appointment, you will be billed the full session fee. Exceptions may be made in the case of emergencies.
Communication Policy
- Scheduling: You may schedule or change appointments via our secure client portal (SimplePractice) or by calling or texting 248‑919‑8092. Text messaging is used for scheduling and brief administrative matters only. Do not send confidential or therapeutic information by text.
- Email: Email is not secure. Please limit email to scheduling or logistical questions. We may not respond to clinical questions via email.
- Emergencies: We are not an emergency service. If you are in crisis or experiencing a life‑threatening situation, call 911 or 988 (the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) immediately. You may also contact Common Ground Counseling Center at 1‑800‑231‑1127 for crisis interventions. We do not monitor
email or voicemail continuously and cannot provide immediate responses.
Confidentiality & Records
Everything you share in therapy is confidential, with a few legally required exceptions. We must break confidentiality if:
- We believe you intend to harm yourself or someone else.
- We suspect abuse or neglect of a child, older adult, or a person with a disability.
We receive a court order or subpoena requiring disclosure.
We maintain your records in a secure electronic health record system (SimplePractice). For more details about how we protect your information and your rights, please review our Notice of Privacy Practices.
Missed Payments & Balances
Payment is due at the time of service. If your card is declined or a balance accrues, we will contact you to update your payment information. Balances must be paid before scheduling additional appointments.
Continued non‑payment may result in suspension of services.
Other Policies
- Telehealth: Therapy By You provides in‑person and telehealth services. Telehealth has its own consent and risks; see our Informed Consent & Telehealth Agreement for details.
- Scope of Practice: We provide psychotherapy services and cannot provide legal, medical, or other
professional advice beyond our scope. If you need other services, we can assist with referrals. - Changes to Policies: These policies may be updated from time to time. The most current version will be
posted on our website and available upon request.
